Branding is very important for your website and adding a logo to your photos is one way you can do this. With the help of a Freelance Artworker, she uses Adobe InDesign to typeset a branded logo photo png.
Helen at Renner Cottages asked Sarahjane to create WordPress header banners for their new website. Sarahjane used photos Helen had taken from her mobile phones while out and about on the farm.

Use in emails or on websites. Ready for your customers to fill out and return to you. Artworker creates installation diagram in Adobe Illustrator
Drawn over the top of photographs to create a perfect simple outline illustration to use as an installation diagram. These drawings are made as a vector file and can be used in multiple ways either for print and on the web.
Microsoft Excel is limited for creativity and design but InDesign can create company branded tables from your Excel tables. By importing and setting up table styles Sarahjane can quickly change many tables to look the consistent e.g. the same colour and fonts. They can also flow neatly from page to page. Tables are a fantastic way to layout lots of data neatly.

The Art Director created the design concept and the branding with the college. From this branding Sarahjane created the 44 page Student Handbook and Pre-arrival Handbook as print ready artwork.
The Artwork consisted of setting up InDesign master pages using styles. Collating images and using Photoshop to save them as print ready. Changes and amends where added to the PDF proofs by the college and Sarahjane completed these to reach the final version.
Print deadlines all seem to arrive very quickly for clients. Sarahjane was hired to artwork layouts, adding in text and images. Working closely with Project Manager and Senior Designer. Making client amends using PDF sticky notes and creating print ready PDFs.
Sarahjane creates high quality artwork that is ready for print. Some designer create a draft design for the Artworker to update with the final print ready version.
Creating a final version from the start saves time and stress before a huge print deadline like the Fringe Festival brochure. Sarahjane is highly organised and makes sure all her artwork is CMYK, with the correct brand fonts and colours.
Artworking 50 charity campaign packs for the Art Director
The Art Director created templates for this five item campaign pack. Sarahjane created master pages and artworked each pack by inserting the text, updating the map, choosing images creating a relevant pattern for each country.
Working closely with editors and account managers on amends and consistencies, the artwork was created efficiently and quickly.
Artworker uses InDesign to collate Microsoft Word files for print
Sarahjane was given the challenge of combining together a collection of research documents into one simple easy to use interactive file with a contents and appendices. Plus the added bonus of it being small enough to email out to clients around the world.
Adobe InDesign is the perfect tool for the job, placing Microsoft Word files and using hyperlinks on top, creating a 226 page document. The PDF was then made into a smaller file size for emailing.
Sarahjane enjoys helping out local businesses with flyers, leaflets, web icons and banners. She charges by the hour and can create artwork from a found sample ideas or a sketch.
Sarahjane’s tip to help decide on a size for your flyer or leaflet is to get a print estimate first, for single or double sided. Plus a sample is very handy to touch and feel the quality and to see the size of the font and images.
Graphic Designer’s involved in publishing hire Sarahjane from time to time to help out when they are busy designing. Involved layout that consist of times, dates and places requires a your full attention especially in a ‘What’s On Guide’.
Sarahjane was asked to help out with local magazine Seaford Scene and Eastbourne Old Town Criers. She is highly organised and thoroughly enjoys the challenge. Using style sheets in InDesign to make the design consistent and quicker to layout.
Sarahjane desk hopped around the office over a few weeks covering the email and helping out on projects while the designers where on holiday. The Senior Designer had created the menus templates with the client and Sarahjane updated the content and made it print ready. Also updating and amending American Express T&Cs, catalogues, leaflets and banners.

A Microsoft Word document is usually supplied in a real mess, a collection of different fonts and colours. This can be imported directly into InDesign
and manipulating the font to fit on four sides and still be readable. While I was here I also created an interactive PDF, recreated a T&Cs layouts, made amends to existing projects and help create an EPUB.
I enjoy a challenge and Fruit asked if I would create Microsoft Word templates for University of Cambridge to help standardise their paperwork. The designer had created the rebrand and I copied this style into Microsoft Word. Using headers, footers and styles to create a variety of templates.
Microsoft Word styles are easy to use once you know how. I am also available to teach.
A bid or a tender layout is a huge project. Sarahjane is given a rough Microsoft Word document to import it into InDesign. She uses design corporate brand guidelines and InDesign with master pages and styles to keep the work consistent e.g. fonts, colours, TOC etc. A tender layout is best created a certain way to flow and be amended easily. Tender deadlines become very tight and working late nights and even away from home is not a problem. Amends and sign off are made quicker with the writer beside the InDesigner.

A InDesign files can be made from Quark on the internet
Converting Quark to InDesign on the internet will give you the basic’s. Colours, images and lots and lots of text boxes. The layout will still require artworking and proofing. The file can be polished, as an Artworker I would still start a layout from scratch as you don’t know what nasties lie within. Giving you a clean and tidy file for print.
It is always great to work at a printers to see where the print ready artwork goes. We worked with great images and these are the key to a clear eye grabbing POS poster. Simple branding helps create a recognisable style.
A car designer will never build or maintain a car, the mechanic does.
A professional Artworker uses InDesign to its full potential (e.g. master pages, styles, keyboard shortcuts, TOC’s etc.). Creating a clean and tidy print ready layout and will be quicker than a designer. This is excellent for large page documents / catalogues / brochures / reports and tenders, keeping consistencies and to corporate branding. An Artworker will also predict future amends and create the layout accordingly. We also have to be highly organised with studio files e.g. images, word files, amends, each office has its own filing structure. This helps other colleagues pick a project quickly.
