A well thought out InDesign project will have a fully functioning table of contents. Sarahjane uses InDesign styles to create a fully automatic contents page, index, footnotes or glossary. Saved as a interactive PDF, Acrobat creates bookmarks from these for easy navigation throughout your long text heavy document. Documents such as tenders, reports or brochures use this. InDesign also can have multi TOC’s for important items such as figures, images or tables.
Everyone loves a family tree, and with photos it becomes really personal. Sarahjane Jackson, nee Moth created her family tree using InDesign to create a PDF for home printing all well as for viewing on screen. This solved the problem of a not so practical large piece of paper.
Sarahjane designed the family tree for print and for screen, for all age groups. The A4 print layout contains arrows drawn to the corresponding page, these pages can be laid out like a jigsaw. The same PDF artwork has interactive arrows, click on these to turn to the next page. Very simple to use.
All photos are saved with the person’s full name and date of birth together with the InDesign file. These are kept safe on the cloud for future amends and additions.
Sarahjane has advanced skills in Adobe InDesign. She will keep your design accurate, consistent and within brand. Edit and retouch images using Photoshop. Recreate icons and logos using Illustrator. Create print ready artwork and interactive Adobe PDF.

Photo books are a beautiful object to own and can look very professional. When my client asked me to create her family album I was very excited. She wanted a simple layout, using scanned photos and memorabilia. I have used Loxley Colour a few times before and created beautiful photo books using their software. Once downloaded onto my clients computer, I could create a bespoke layout for her images. Please contact me using the email form with any enquiries.

New logo redrawn in Illustrator to create a Vector file to use on the web or print
Sarahjane’s client had lost his original logo artwork file and needed a new vector file (jpeg, png) recreated. A clean, crisp, web friendly file to use for their website and word documents. They also required the font to be updated to a more modern style keeping the colours and shape.
A logo is very important in business and one can be created from a photo or a scribble. Illustrator files can easily be made into jpegs and png, for using on your website and Microsoft Word files.

Freelance Artworker Brighton creating design and print
Microsoft Excel is limited for creativity and design but InDesign can create company branded tables from your Excel tables. By importing and setting up table styles Sarahjane can quickly change many tables to look the consistent e.g. the same colour and fonts. They can also flow neatly from page to page. Tables are a fantastic way to layout lots of data neatly.
From hotels, golf courses, Spa’s to restaurants requiring literature to be artworked for print or web. Designers in Brighton agencies create beautiful branding, a company’s bespoke style and look.
Sometimes they require an Artworker to help during these busy times, to recreate artwork in all shapes and sizes. This is the stuff designers don’t have time for and it needs an well organised Artworkers full attention.
Working remotely I was asked to design a staff stock catalogue using existing website branding (colours, logo and fonts). A simple and quick layout of 26 pages. This lead to me creating two more catalogues, two order forms and a stock leaflet. Using the latest Adobe InDesign to create the layout and PDF’s for amends and comments.
I enjoy a challenge and Fruit asked if I would create Microsoft Word templates for University of Cambridge to help standardise their paperwork. The designer had created the rebrand and I copied this style into Microsoft Word. Using headers, footers and styles to create a variety of templates.
Microsoft Word styles are easy to use once you know how. I am also available to teach.
A InDesign files can be made from Quark on the internet
Converting Quark to InDesign on the internet will give you the basic’s. Colours, images and lots and lots of text boxes. The layout will still require artworking and proofing. The file can be polished, as an Artworker I would still start a layout from scratch as you don’t know what nasties lie within. Giving you a clean and tidy file for print.
Tables are my favourite, neat and tidy with full control. Using InDesign, the tables flowed nicely from page to page, I created table styles for full control of the fonts and colours, this made client amends quicker. Amends where made using PDF comments.
Keeping the layout to very strict brand guidelines
Sarahjane rebranded hundreds of product learning guides leaflets into new templates for John Lewis Partnership, one for each item they sell. They have there own in-house team but required someone who could follow strict guidelines and steam through the rebrand. Sarahjane used her advanced skills in InDesign to keep the brand consistent Please see Sarahjane’s references from Image Data Group.
John Lewis Partnership, Freelance Artworker at Image Data Group
Sarahjane took on the mammoth text heavy layout project in InDesign of EDF’s craft manuals. Eight manuals in total with around 600 pages long each. The original 1970’s manuals where scanned into word files then Sarahjane imported them into InDesign. Using styles she made from the corporate branding and guidelines to create a consistent document. This also links to automated contents pages for each section. Please see Sarahjane’s references.
A car designer will never build or maintain a car, the mechanic does.
A professional Artworker uses InDesign to its full potential (e.g. master pages, styles, keyboard shortcuts, TOC’s etc.). Creating a clean and tidy print ready layout and will be quicker than a designer. This is excellent for large page documents / catalogues / brochures / reports and tenders, keeping consistencies and to corporate branding. An Artworker will also predict future amends and create the layout accordingly. We also have to be highly organised with studio files e.g. images, word files, amends, each office has its own filing structure. This helps other colleagues pick a project quickly.
Artworker’s enables the designer do what they are good at – DESIGNING!
